(This bio was the press release issued by Lunasound Recordings upon the release of our debut CD. It's actually an updated version of an earlier one..... the less-modest proclamations are courtesy of the label - hey they're trying to sell it! Hyperboles aside, this bio is a good overview of the band's activities up until 2003.)
Sir Hedgehog rode in sometime in the autumn of 1995 with the original line up of Jonas Fairley (vocals), Paul Slater (guitar), Simon Oliver (bass), and Steve Oliver (drums). As individuals, all four had met when playing shows together with their then respective bands, but finally a mutual appreciation of the majesty of 70's hard rock and metal (like all the best things in life...) brought them together under the distinctive moniker of Sir Hedgehog.
Their debut release, a 3 song cassette demo, "The Legend of Sir Hedgehog", was unleashed in 1997 to immediate acclaim, including rave reviews from Terrorizer, Kerrang, and Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles among many others. The response from the underground rock and metal scene was so strong that in 1998 it was decided to release a limited edition CD containing the "Legend.." demo plus two other sessions, so all who had missed the initial cassette release would finally have their chance to “taste the hog”. It sold out immediately and the band began to work on new material.
By mid-1999, Simon Oliver had left the band, and was quickly replaced by Brendy Marklinger, an old bandmate of Jonas'. However, even with the quick changeover, it was still some time before the band began to record again...but when they did the results were astounding!
In early 2001, sharpened by 6 years of steady gigs and rehearsals and with the extra push of a new bass player, Sir Hedgehog finally delivered their self-titled, full-length debut. The disc contained the band's strongest material to date and justifiably received fantastic reviews right across the board, leading to some spectacular support slots for Clutch, Biohazard, and The Cutthroats 9, among many others.
Sometime around the end of 2001, word of all this activity finally filtered through to the artic north and Sweden in particular. One listen to the self released disc was all it took and the band were offered a multi album deal with Lunasound Recording, which they wasted no time at all in signing.
For the first release from this new partnership we give you a fully re-mastered and re-packaged version of that hard to find debut, complete with bonus material. Heavier than hell in a hand basket and as memorable as losing your virginity, Sir Hedgehog's sound gives a nod to the best heavy rock of the past three decades, yet easily fits into the burgeoning underground heavy music scene of today.
You cannot afford to miss this gem!
(Addendum 2005 - from Buzzville Records ' Sir Hedgehog page):
Following the demise of Lunasound, was a period of inactivity for Sir Hedgehog. Still feeling that they have much to offer musically, Hedgehog started writing and rehearsing again in early 2005, laying down two tracks in June for future release. Many more songs are in the works, and the band is hoping to be able to release another album sometime in 2006. With the memorable songwriting, melodic vocals, and heavy riffing all remaining fully intact, the band's best days are surely still to come.
"RnR Blvd Vol. 1" features the previously unreleased Sir Hedgehog track "Read Between The Mind".
